While we all love that CBD is gaining popularity in today’s culture, it would be wrong for us to assume this is a modern day phenomenon. To be honest, the use of CBD can be traced back to ancient time civilizations, as it was specifically used for either religious practices and rituals, or used for medicinal purposes.
The first ever use of CBD dates back to 12000 BCE. There’s archaeological evidence the cannabis Sativa plant was the first cultivated plant in Siberia and Mongolia, and played a vital role in developing early civilizations.
The first documented use of CBD as a form of care for the body was in 2737 BCE in China. The remedy was tea infused with cannabis to help bring the body back to balance.
The first use of cannabis for skincare and parchment scrolls can be traced all the way back to Ancient Egypt. Scrolls that date back to 2000 BCE were found to refer to CBD as shemshemet in hieroglyphics, which means medicine.
All of these first discoveries led to American chemist, Roger Adams, to discover the first cannabinoid in 1942, Cannabidiol, better known as CBD. Him isolating the chemical compound from the hemp plant also led to the discovery of the psychoactive chemical, THC.
Since then, we have uncovered the many benefits the chemical compound has to offer the body, mind, and soul. Some of the key benefits include better sleep, pain relief, ease of stress, and even increasing energy levels.
You can find CBD in any big buck store it seems like nowadays thanks to the Hemp Farming Act of 2018. The Farm Bill specifically states CBD can only be considered legal if it's derived from industrial hemp grown per the bill’s regulations. Compared to marijuana, CBD can’t get you high. So it’s legally defined as containing less than .3 percent of psychoactive THC.
